About the event
The Class: Ideation: Where do ideas come from? Learn some techniques and exercises designed to help cultivate new ideas and help you to break through creative barriers and get you writing.
Story: What are the elements of a good story? Learn Joseph Campbell’s “Heroes Journey” and see how it has influenced many popular films. Learn about the three-act format of storytelling, beginning, middle and end!
Structure: Go beyond the basic three-act structure and learn about the “Beats” method of script writing. What does a properly formatted screenplay look like? What are the functions of each of the elements of a screenplay? Discover how to ensure your script will be read and not just tossed away because of improper formatting.
About the Teacher: Steve Coker is a local screenwriter, playwright and film maker who has spent the last 25 years working as a teacher, script doctor, director, and producer. He is known for his comedic and naturalistic dialogue. His class "Eight Weeks to a First Draft" has helped many aspiring filmmakers and writers to get through their first script, many of which went on to be produced as feature and short film projects. All for $60.00
